Why do Japanese people wear chopsticks in her hair?

These hair sticks are a type of hair ornament collectively referred to as 'kanzashi' in Japanese. They were originally worn thousands of years ago to ward off evil spirits, and came into wider use during the Edo period as hairstyles became more elaborate. Nowadays, they are simply decorations worn to add a touch of elegance.
