Are toxic and hazardous the same?

Toxic and hazardous are related but not identical terms. "Toxic" refers specifically to substances that can cause harm or injury to living organisms through chemical reactions, typically through ingestion, inhalation, or skin contact. "Hazardous," on the other hand, encompasses a broader category that includes any material posing potential risks to health, safety, or the environment, including toxic substances as well as those that are flammable, reactive, or corrosive. Thus, all toxic substances are hazardous, but not all hazardous substances are necessarily toxic.
