The unique physical features include Niagara Falls, the Appalachian Mountain Range (which include the White Mountains, the Green Mountains, and the Catskills), the Great Lakes (Ontario and Erie), Chesapeake Bay and Hudson Bay.

2. The natural resources are grapes, cranberries, trees, minerals and rocks such as granite and marble. Seafood (crab, lobster, fish) is another natural resource.

Major industries and products include making electricity through hydroelectric power, processing of grapes(wine, jelly), cranberries (juice, sauce) and maple syrup, building construction (using stone), and the fishing industry. These affect the economy of the Northeast.

3. The climate is temperate. The weather is different in the summer, fall, winter, and spring. People can ski in the winter, go sightseeing in the fall (leaf-peeping), watch maple syrup production in the spring, and enjoy the lakes and mountains in the summer, as well as the beaches by the Atlantic Ocean.

4. Northeastern landmarks include the swan boats in Boston Common, Boston, MA, the EmpireStateBuilding in New York City, NY, the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, PA, the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, NJ, and the National Aquarium in Baltimore, MD.

5. The original inhabitants include several Native American groups. The Narragansett of Rhode Island, and the Seneca, Mohawk, and Oneida, Onodaga, Cayuga (which forms the Iroquois confederacy) of New York.

6. Immigrant groups include Europeans from Great Britain, Ireland, Germany and Scandanavia, and the Netherlands. Most came in through the port of New York called Ellis Island.

7. Three famous people from this region include:

Andrew Carnegie -- contributed his knowledge of the British steel-making process and build steel and iron factories around Pittsburgh. When he sold his company, he became the richest person in the world, so he gave much of his time and money toward helping people (philanthropist).

Sojourner Truth -- addressed abolishonist meetings and told people about the lives of slaves, which helped to convince many people to fight against slavery and work for freedom for all people.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton -- fought for the rights of all people, particularly women.
