For an improper fraction such as ' 5/2'

We divide the numerator(top) by the denominator(bottom). This will given a whole number and a remainder.

So 5/2 divide by '2 = 2 remainder '1'

'2' is the coefficient and the remainder '1' is the fraction numerator .

Hence it is written as

' 2 1/2 '.

Do 5/2 = 2 1/2
