One of the most important strategies implemented by the United States that contributed to the fall of the former Soviet Union was President Reagan's national security directives. These three directives were called NDSSs. NSDD-323 called for United States to seek to neutralize Soviet control over Eastern and Central Europe. NSDD-66 made it policy to disrupt the Soviet economy by attacking financial credits, high technology, and natural gas. NSDD-75 stated that the United States would no longer have a policy of coexistence with the Soviet Union, but rather one to destroy it.
