Your boyfriend tells you to shut up?

I guess that is never very pleasant. However, one wonders about the context.

If you are expressing an alternate opinion, and in a nice manner, and he flat out says "shut up", that would be bad. On the other hand, if you are upset with him, and screaming obscenities about him and his mother, then perhaps we could forgive him for saying that.
