The nation had overseas possessions it intended to keep. It had a long-time trade relations with Europe, particularly Britain and France. Besides trade, may Americans had ancestors from Britain and did not want to see the old home land overun by Germans. Americans had investments all over the world which they did not want to lose or see de-valued.
