How do you winterize a Yamaha 1200 xlt?

1) Fill your gas tank and add proper amount of stabilizer. Hook up your garden hose to the coupling under the seat and run the engine to flush out all of the junk that the ski picks up during operation.

2) Running the engine while you do this flush will allow the stabilizer to get into all areas of the fuel system.

3) Unhook the hose and run the engine briefly for a few seconds (no more than 30 seconds at a time) to run the water out. Do this about 3 times running it no more than 30 seconds at a time. You have to let the engine cool between these sessions. You will notice the water coming out of the back end of the ski. A lot at first and less as you run it. Wipe excess water up as best you can.

4) Take out your spark plugs and turn the engine over while spraying fogging oil into the cylinders. You could put a bit of oil into the cylinders at this point, but the fogging oil should be sufficient. Replace the spark plugs.

5) Be sure to have the gas turned off at the "On/Off/Res" knob.

6) Be sure to towel or sponge out any water that may be present in the bottom of the ski, wipe down the body, and put it away for the winter.

The most important thing is to be sure that you get the water out of the ski before the cold weather hits as frozen water has a way of messing with things!
