That strongly depends on the species. The embryonic stage (egg) takes at least several days to weeks. The larval stage (free swimming larva) takes a few months to sometimes over a year. The adult life span latst from 7-10 years (average), some species can reach an age of more than 20 years.

Some salamanders dont have an external egg and larval stage (live-bearing) or there is little difference in the larvela stage compared tot the adult stage (neotene). In these species it is hard to tell the different stages.
