Color blindness is often linked to the X chromosome, and since males have one X and one Y chromosome (XY), a single recessive gene on their X chromosome can cause the condition. Females, on the other hand, have two X chromosomes (XX), so they would need to inherit the recessive gene on both X chromosomes to be color blind. This genetic difference makes color blindness more common in males than in females.
