No, but they are the two best demonstrations of oscillating reactions. The B-Z was discovered first, in the USSR in 1950. It used bromine compounds. The B-R was found in 1972 in San Francisco by two teachers looking for an iodine analogue of the B-Z. See the Wikipedia articles for more info.
