Russia, France, and the Ukraine are the three largest countries in Europe by land area. However, including only land that is entirely in the continent of Europe, the three largest countries would be the Ukraine, France, and Spain.
You may notice that the positions of the Ukraine and France are switched. This is because France includes integral lands located outside of Europe in the continents of North America, South America, and Africa. This are not territories, but integral lands and are considered just as much a part of France as say Paris. When not including lands outside of Europe, France's area is lower than that of the Ukraine, as Metropolitan France (the area of France located only in Europe) is smaller than that of the Ukraine. Russia is also unincluded because Russia is a transcontinental country, spanning both Europe and Asia.
