How does a person become a reader or a lector at Mass?

In our parish you speak to the head of lectors or the pastor - if there is a need you would need training and not everyone is selected. Generally, you should be regualr practicing Catholic and in high school at youngest, often but not necessarily after Confirmation, depending on parish guidelines
