Why is my house ac getting hot and fan shutting off If I run water on it to keep it cool it runs like it is suppose to if I don't the fan shutts off?

The fan is overheating and shutting down causing the compressor to fail on its high pressure safety. Check the fan capacitor or possibly the motor is going bad. Have you oiled it lately?
