When you buy a used car in Arizona are you required to get new plates and tags?

Yes. When a car is sold, the plates remain the property of the previous owner, who then places them on another car he/she buys, or turns them in for credit if not ever buying another vehicle.

If you have never had Arizona plates, you will need to apply for those at the local MVD in your area.
