Why would a town want to attract more tourists?

Tourists spend money at restaurants, gas stations, convenience stores, museums, hotels, motels, gift shops, malls, hospitals, grocery stores, convenience stores, drug stores, auto repair shops, Golf courses, amusement parks, city and state parks, toll roads, traffic tickets, specialty shops, theaters, camping grounds, etc.
