When and why is handwashing important to patient care?

Hand washing is important for patient care because it reduces the chances of infection. Their are an estimated 100,000 people that die every year in hospitals because the doctor or nurse did not wash their hands. Those 100,000 deaths could be avoided by something so simple as washing their hands.
