Yes, the US is one of the few countries to still produce $1 notes. In fact, nearly half of all US banknotes are $1 bills.

Despite repeated calls to replace the $1 note with a coin there has been significant political opposition to such a move. It stems partly from inherent US resitance to change (e.g. the US also still measures in feet and pounds) and partly from a very successful lobbying effort by the company that produces the special paper used for printing banknotes.
