If the cuboid were 10 feet x 10 feet x 1 foot the volume would be 10 x 10 x 1 = 100. Now if you imagine slicing the cuboid exactly halfway through the shallow dimension you will get two equal cuboids that would sum to 100 cubic feet and, therefore each cuboid would be 50 cubic feet.
