It really depends on your religion. For example, if you are an atheist, You would have no problem gambling or playing lottery, other than perhaps your own moral standing. Many religions that do have a god are opposed to gambling. Christianity makes a good example as it is the most popular, and the majority of people will understand. In biblical texts, there are warnings against gambling, to the point that in the 1900's and even today card games and dice games are frowned upon in some denominations.
