Basically the way the wired controller works is all threw the usb cable itself. Inside the controller there are pressure sensitive pads, so that when you press a button or move the joystick it sends this information threw the cord into into the console where it is translated to preset movements or actions. This is why it is very important to not get anything on the buttons and joysticks that could cause sticking or blockage between the button and the pressure pad. You must also be careful with the cord because any damage to it could cause many problems such as power failures or the buttons signal not to be sent.
