What is the meaning of a bee in the bonnet?

A bonnet is an old-fashioned hat that covered the whole head and had a hood at the front. If a bee flew in, there wasn't an easy way for it to fly back out -- thus, the saying came to mean something that bothered you a lot until it was resolved.
