How can you check the spark on a chain saw?

Take the wire off the spark plug, take the plug out and put in back into the wire. Position the plug in an area near the hole or any metal area so that you can see the electrode of the plug. Pull on the recoil with the saw in the one position and look for spark. If you don't see spark, make sure you have it properly contacting the metal. There is also a cheap tool that you connect between the wire and the plug and when you try to start your saw it lights up telling you that you are getting spark.
