How many alleles a regular cell has?

A regular somatic cell in a diploid organism typically has two alleles for each gene, one inherited from each parent. Therefore, if a gene has multiple variants (alleles), a cell can possess two of those variants. In contrast, haploid cells, like gametes, contain only one allele for each gene. Thus, the total number of alleles in a regular diploid cell is generally two per gene.
