Cancer's reproductive nature and lack of uniformity has prevents cancer from being easily "cured". Most cures for Cancer will only kill/rid a certain percentage of the cancer cells, leaving the rest to continue reproducing.

To truly defeat cancer one must remove the reproductive abilities of cancer cells. To do this one must remove the enzyme telomerase from all cells that can become cancerous (which is all of them). With the telomerase removed cells will only be able to reproduce a limited amount of times, capping out before they become a tumour at which point they die out.

The obvious side effect of this, cell atrophy will require frequent replacements of cells every couple of years, most likely using stem cells.

Although radical, it is a surefire way to defeat cancer, one of the greatest killers in the modern, developed world.
