What is the best way to use plumbers putty to seal a tub drain effectively?

To effectively seal a tub drain using plumber's putty, first clean and dry the area around the drain. Roll the putty into a rope shape and press it around the underside of the drain flange. Insert the drain into the tub and tighten it securely. Wipe away any excess putty and allow it to set for at least 24 hours before using the tub.
