DMAIC and DMADV are both methodologies used in Six Sigma for process improvement, but they serve different purposes. DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) is used to improve existing processes by identifying and eliminating defects. In contrast, DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, Verify) is focused on designing new processes or products to meet customer needs and achieve quality standards from the outset. While DMAIC aims at optimizing current operations, DMADV is about creating new solutions that fulfill specific requirements.
