What was unusual about Grendel's blood?

Beowulf is thought by many to be the first superhero in literature. He was an ordinary man with superhuman powers. He kills Grendel by grabbing his arm and squeezing it until the pain becomes intolerable. Eventually, Grendel dies by losing his strength bleeding to death.
