The purpose of a cat is what?

My cat hunts mice, chipmunks and moles and keeps the rodent population in check. My neighbors appreciate the duty they are doing. The Bubonic Plague was caused by rodents because all the cats had been destroyed in that land. Mice can be a major problem if there are not predators to catch them. Cats also make good sympathetic companions when people in our household are sick.
