Why did Eva kill plum in sula?

Eva killed Plum because she believed it was a more merciful act than allowing him to suffer in his drug addiction and physical deterioration. Plum's addiction and condition were a source of deep pain for Eva, and she wanted to end his suffering in her own misguided way.
