Background of the theme of hymn to labor by Jose Rizal?

In 1888, friends of famous Filipino poet, novelist, writer and revolutionary Jose Rizal, from the town of Lipa requested him to write a poem to commemorate the event of town of Lipa's elevation to the status of a city. Jose Rizal paid tribute to hard working inhabitants of Lipa in this poem.
