Snakes are deaf, they have no ears. They are very sensitve to vibration and will pick up your footsteps from quite a distance away. The tongue is very specialised,the taste buds detect the molecules of gas in smells,when you see a snakes tongue going back and forth into its mouth it's taking samples of gas to identify the source.It is actually smelling with its tongue
