Where does the fertillization occur in a salmon?

In salmon, fertilization occurs externally. During spawning, female salmon release their eggs into the water, and male salmon simultaneously release sperm to fertilize the eggs. This usually takes place in freshwater streams or rivers where the salmon return to breed. The fertilized eggs then settle into the gravel substrate, where they develop until hatching.
