Why can't you imagine a completely new color?

Being able to see color and visible light is a direct result of evolution on this planet. Due to atmospheric content and properties of the sun, we get a certain high frequency spectrum of light down here on the surface (at least a magority). Our brains evolved and quite litterally INVENTED color to measure variations in the frequency and amplitude of the light, or EM radiation. Our brains could have just as easily invented poc-a-dot patterns to dicern the differences.

Color does not really exist. Only various frequencies exist, of which we can only PRECEIVE a small portain as a result of evolution on the planet. If we had evolved in a neutron star system, the frequencies perceived and adapted to would have been entirely different.

Trying to imagine a new color is like trying to imagine what sweat or bitter sounds like; or like trying to imagine how music tastes. It can be done, but if you cannot make sense of it it means nothing and your kind of just going insain with unusual programming. It's like asking MS Visio to comprehend what it's like to be an operating system, sure it could be done, but it would cease to be a drawing program anymore.

Piece of advise, if you really really REALLY want to dive into thinking of the unthinkable, you only have two option.. go insane, or experiment with LSD. Then you'll understand, assuming it's good stuff =).
