When the Mormon Pioneers first arrived in what is now Utah, it was part of Mexico. They moved there purposely because the American Government had treated them so poorly.
In 1875, missionary work began among the Mexican people. (Prior to that, very few Church materials were available in Spanish).
In the past few decades, membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) has exploded! In the 1970's, there were about 200,000 members in Mexico. Now, there are 1.2 million! This could very well reflect the fact that the Mexican government formally registered the Church in 1993.
