Charles Tran Van Lam traveled to Australia by boat as part of the Vietnamese boat people exodus during the late 1970s and early 1980s. This perilous journey was undertaken to escape the aftermath of the Vietnam War and the subsequent political turmoil in Vietnam. Many like him sought refuge and a better life, often facing significant dangers at sea. Upon arrival, he was granted asylum and eventually settled in Australia.
