What does the g8 mean?

The G8, or Group of Eight, was an intergovernmental organization made up of eight of the world's largest economies: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It focused on addressing global economic issues, security challenges, and other pressing international matters. In 2014, Russia was suspended from the group due to its annexation of Crimea, effectively reducing the group to the G7. The G7 continues to meet annually to discuss and coordinate policies among its member nations.
