Depends on what you want to learn. If you're interested in learning a trade, for example, college is not the right place. Graduating college is a requirement for some fields, such as medicine, law, teaching, or engineering. People interested in business often go to college, although it is not a requirement; anyone can start a business. A career in the arts or humanities doesn't always require a degree, although many people find the experience helpful.

College provides an opportunity to learn with others, and from people experienced in the field. Discussions, collaborations, research, and hands-on learning all take place at colleges and universities. Some things simply can't be learned at college, and would be better taught in another setting, such as a trade or technical school, the military, or by entering the workforce immediately after graduating high school.
