Why does Ralph begin running for the top of the mountain Lord of the flies?

Ralph runs to the mountaintop to evade Jack's tribe, who are hunting him after stealing Piggy's glasses. He hopes to find safety and send a smoke signal for rescue by civilization ships. Additionally, he believes he may have a better chance of survival if he can signal for help from a high vantage point.
