What is the contribution of the Great Wall of China?

The Great Wall was used to keep out invaders from the North (such as the Mongolians and nomads). Millions of people died during the construction of the wall. Most of the wall was built during the Ming Dynasty (about the 14th century B.C.E. to the 17th century B.C.E.).
