The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California was the longest in the world (1,280m/4,200ft) between 1937 and 1964. It was beaten by the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in New York City (1,298m/4,259ft). The Humber bridge in Hull, England (United Kingdom) measured at 1,410m/4,626ft when it opened in 1981 and is currently the 5th longest bridge in the world (whereas the Golden gate is currently the 9th longest bridge in the world).
