William Shakespeare had seven siblings. He was the third of eight children born to John and Mary Shakespeare. Of his siblings, only three—his sister Joan and brothers Gilbert and Richard—survived to adulthood. The rest, including two other sisters and three brothers, died in infancy or early childhood.
