How to change the battery on a 2002 jaguar xj8?

Remove the two metal oval bands (one on either side) which can be done just using fingers or a small screw driver. Make a note of the positioning of the indentations in the bands which are for the pull out key

Open up the key fob mechanism again with fingers or a small screwdriver. The CR2032 battery is obvious and interfaces with the printed circuit board. Replace battery which just pops out of its plastic mounting and reassemble. Polarity is marked on the plastic to indicate which way up

Be careful of the spring loaded mechanism which retains the removable key in the fob but it is easy to reassemble of it does come out of its guiding slot
