The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, aka Jug, was designed by Alexander Nikolaievich Prokofiev de Seversky [June 7, 1894-August 24, 1974] and Alexander Kartveli [1896-1974]. Its first flight took place on May 6, 1941. It was the largest single-seat fighter plane in World War II.
