The International Monetary Fund was created in 1945 following agreements made by representatives of the 44 Allied nations at the United Nations Monetary and Financial conference of 1944.

The conference took place between 1st and 22nd July 1944 at the Washington Hotel, situated in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, United States. It is more commonly known as the "Bretton Woods Conference".
