How did Alexander Graham Bell's invention affect communication is the US?

Thanks to Bell we have phones. Without phones companies and people would have a harder time and there would be no internet. The first internet was over the phone lines. My bet is that you have a cell phone on or you are using it to ask this question. I rest my case.
