Look at it this way... To lose one pound of weight, you must have a total NEGATIVE intake of 3600 calories. Stair-climbing does burn more calories than walking on a flat surface, but while burning calories doing this you are building muscles (heart, in your legs & buttocks, etc), which is good. Also, the exercise should be over at least a 20 minute period, several days a week primarily for your cardiac workout... But you've got to burn that 3600 calories in order to lose the weight, and do it so that you lose about 1/2 pound a week (women) or 1 pound a week for men. If the total intake of calories is greater than you expend, then your weight will go up correspondingly.
