Why is asp snake venom toxic to humans?

Asp venom is a cytotoxin, possibly a hemotoxin, both of which destroy the blood cells and are very painful. Cytotoxins cause swelling, twitching, and necrosis before death. Hemotoxins are the same except with the added symptoms ofhemorrhaging and multi-organ failure. Not pretty.
