First we note that the slope does exist between the two points because the two points do not have the same x co-ordinate.

Next, we apply the slope formula.

slope=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

Note that it does not matter which point you call as 1 or 2, you will still get the same result. For this example we will call point (-5,-13) as point 1 and (-17,-19) as point 2.

Therefore:

slope=(-19-(-13)) / (-17-(-5))

= (-6) / (-12)

= 1/2

Therefore, the slope of the line containing the points (-5,-13) and (-17,-19) is 1/2.
