What is the difference between a bull and an ox?

A bull is an intact mature male bovine that is primarily used for the purpose of breeding cows and heifers in order to produce offspring called calves.

Oxen, on the other hand, (singular being ox), are castrated male bovines (and occasionally female bovines) that are trained and used for draft work.
